NVC mediation techniques may be used to support others in conflict, however they can also be a powerful tool for implementing the "dance" of NVC in your own life - the flow between listening and speaking, empathizing and expressing oneself with authenticity and compassion.
These techniques build upon the 'formula' of OFNR and will help you with your tracking skills, ability to hold on to self-expression until effective timing arises, self-empathy for personal triggers and developing the habit of 'connecting prior to correcting.' Some of the exercizes can also be useful for dealing with internal debates/ambivalent feelings. Although I believe integrating NVC involves coming into a needs consciousness, these clear techniques can ground a traditional learner in a process with definitive steps. This class may evolve into a semi-regular practice group and will be taught by Erika Jennings and Joe Crick. Joe is getting his masters in systems psychology and has been immersed in nvc for several years, applying it to deepening connection with adults and children. Erika has enjoyed three year long NVC intensives: Ike Lassater and John Kinyon’s NVC Mediation program, the Parent-Peer Leadership Program with Inbal Kashtan, and Mary’s Mackenzie’s Teacher-Facilitator Training Program - as well as the IIT and studying extensively with our local Holly Eckert. |
