Are you worried about going home for Thanksgiving?
Would you like to bring with you the tools to support yourself to remain connected to yourself and others? Even when the TV is blaring... if you are tired of shutting down - and doing all the same things you’ve been doing since you were a kid - come learn concrete strategies and skills to help you stay motivated to stay in connection with yourself and others. Even with all the same old family dynamics, YOU don’t have to be lonely and isolated as usual. Join me for a short, practical prep session that you can do right from your bedroom with just an internet connection. I'll guide you through a few simple exercises that you don't need any preparation or prior training in communication to benefit from. These exercises use simple skills for self-care and communication and help you apply them in that most challenging context of all - your family. At the end of the hour, you’ll have clear, doable steps to take with you when you go home for Thanksgiving. As a Nonviolent Communication trainer, I’ve honed these practices over the last five years to help myself and my students and clients make it through the holidays no matter how "good at NVC" they are. You’ll know what to do when: - you start feeling drained listening to Aunt Helen Even though it seems overwhelming and impossible to change, a little bit of preparation goes a long way. In the words of a past participant:
Sounds good, but maybe you're wondering... Hey Amanda, what if I'm not used to doing this kind of thing on video? Yes, it does seem strange. I’ve been teaching and facilitating communication training over video and phone for more than three years and I’ve got it down. My students and clients often marvel at how much personal and specific-to-them benefit they got through the computer screen. But Amanda, my family is hopeless. I know. That doesn’t mean you have to continue to be bogged down. There’s a lot you can change about your own experience even if everyone else continues to just drink beer and watch the Seahawks. |
