"The nonviolent approach does not immediately change the heart of the oppressor. It first does something to the hearts and souls of those committed to it. It gives them new self-respect: it calls up resources of strength and courage that they did not know they had. Finally it reaches the opponent and so stirs his conscience, that reconciliation becomes a reality." Martin Luther King, Jr. 1958 The workshop is a facilitated conversation in diads and whole group format that was born out of conversation with CNVC trainer, Kit Miller, Director of the Gandhi Institute of Nonviolence in Rochester, New York, and a deep longing I have to show up for the pain others and I myself experience at this time, in our communities. Feedback from previous workshop participants: "Pam Orbach facilitated a powerful conversation to support better understanding of hate as an emotion that may translate into behaviors/actions. When we can identify our own shadows and unconscious biases and recognize the mirror within, we're then better equipped to shift from “otherness” and find ways to act with understanding, love, and compassion. We’re all in this together. *With* each other." Susan Creighton, May 2017 (Wellness Professionals Network ) This is an experience you don't need to prepare for, you may enjoy in the moment, and be able to take wisdom away with you to implement in your everyday encounters. |
