"The nonviolent approach does not immediately change the heart of the oppressor. It first does something to the hearts and souls of those committed to it. It gives them new self-respect: it calls up resources of strength and courage that they did not know they had. Finally it reaches the opponent and so stirs his conscience that reconciliation becomes a reality." Martin Luther king 1958
How do we use our NVC tools and skills when we are triggered and feeling unsafe in the face of hate? We spend much energy understanding compassion and care, so that we can experience and express these values. This workshop is an opening to gain more understanding of what hate is all about, so that we can be present to it and with it, in order to heal it. This is an invitation to join an interactive exploratory conversation to tap into our own experiences and share wisdom about the medicine for hate. The workshop is born out of conversation with CNVC trainer Kit Miller, Director of the Gandhi Institute of Nonviolence in Rochester New York, and a deep longing I have to show up for the pain I and others are experiencing right now in our community. |
