Restorative Circles are a community-based approach to conflict transformation, supporting organizations and communities of all kinds – including families, schools, non-profits and businesses – in transforming and learning from conflict. Conflict is a natural part of any social system, but conscious facilitation of conflict can transform damaging dispute and tension into an amazing source of positive learning, creativity, and connection. Recognized internationally for their effectiveness, the development of Restorative Circles began with the work of Dominic Barter with youth gangs in Brazil in the mid 1990s and continues with a growing network of practitioners in over 23 countries. Restorative Circles projects have won awards for innovation in justice and in education, and have been recognized internationally by organizations including the United Nations Development Programme, the Brazilian Justice Department, and NESTA, the UK’s foremost social innovation think-tank.
