Do you dream of a world of racial equity, but unsure of your role in creating it? Are you interested in Black Lives Matter and at the same time confused and concerned about what happened at the Bernie Sanders event?
In this six week series we'll share tools and approaches to racism and racial justice based in compassion and nonviolence. We will explore ways to work together while being in alignment with our values, even when we are triggered. The first evening is a free introduction, if you would like to first check out whether you'd like to continue with the whole series.

Amanda Blaine is a white person from New England who has many years of experience supporting youth and adults to transform separation into connection around issues of race, class, and gender. As a public school teacher in a predominantly white school district, she supported her students to confront structural racism. She has also supported dialogue and peace-building for young people and adults from Palestine and Israel as well as Pakistan, Afghanistan, and India You can read her writing on Teaching Tolerance: www.tolerance.org/author/amanda-blaine.

Janice Eng is a second generation Chinese American, who grew up in a small town in Eastern Washington. As the only Chinese American family in the town, Janice became aware and interested in issues of difference and race. She has been teaching Nonviolent Communication classes since 2000 in Washington State prisons through the Freedom Project.  Her passion is to help others to break free from prisons of fear, resentments, limiting beliefs, and negative habit patterns to create safe, healthy, whole relationships and communities where every person matters and every voice is heard. She has been in the holistic healing field since 1980.

Who is it for?

This class is for people who label themselves white, (people of color welcome too!), who want to explore and understand racial equity, and who may want to be  active in racial equity work.
