In this interactive workshop, participants will explore proven practices for fostering empathy in schools. Exercises will draw on Sura Hart’s classroom curricula and tools, including The No-Fault Zone Game, a colorful, hands-on tool being used in schools in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and Argentina, to support empathy, social-emotional learning, and conflict resolution.
This is first in a series of Compassionate Schools workshops, designed to connect school administrators, teachers and parents championing compassionate classrooms and schools. This workshop will also connect you to other teachers and school administrators in the Seattle area who are championing compassionate classrooms and schools. We are creating a Network of Compassionate Schools in Seattle, for mutual support, learning, and shared power and impact on school policies and curricula. Sura Hart has been a classroom teacher in public and private schools, a director of family programs, and a education consultant, parent coach, trainer and curriculum designer. She is a certified trainer with the global Center for Nonviolent Communication. Sura has co-authored three books on teaching and practicing empathy with children and is co-creator of The No-Fault Zone Game, a visual, hands-on tool that helps people understand one another, solve problems together and resolve conflicts peacefully. Sura is also co-founder and facilitator of Teach for Life! 5-day Educators Institute retreat (see listing for July 23-29.) |
